ABOUT CHRISTAHello. I'm Christina Gates, an artist with a passion for creating colorfield paintings that brighten modern life. I studied studio art and art history in college before teaching in the classroom for six years. I've been painting for as long as I can remember and I signed my first works with a stamp baring my childhood-nickname, Christa. This memory inspired "Created by Christa," which is a venture to share my artistic projects and offer custom creations.

ABOUT THE ART
My colorfield paintings resemble abstracted landscapes and seascapes, inspired by bodies of water, shore features, and brilliant sunsets. They don't document a specific location but are a quiet place to rest our eyes and souls. My art aims to convey a feeling of stillness, like a moment paused in time. In this quiet moment, we can become pensive, perhaps exploring in our minds the awesome power and beauty of nature, returning us to a world we may have forgotten in this fast-paced, digital age.
I work in both oil and acrylic. I build up my paintings with color until they become very tactile. I know a work is finished when its layers express the richness of nature and make me want to dive into the painting and swim around.
